Social media in Agriculture

Is ‘social media’ a good thing? We hear a lot about it, and you may wonder whether it can be used in ways beyond finding out what people had for breakfast!

Next week in Sydney, a seminar will be held on ‘Social media in Agriculture’. The seminar has been organised by the Primary Industries Adaptation Research Network. See the link below for more information:

The seminar features a keynote by Paul Higgins. Paul is a futurist, and more information can be found at his website ‘Emergent Futures’. Paul has written about (among other things) how technology can be used to support those in regional areas. See the examples below:

What’s The Future

In one of the articles above, Paul makes the following comment: ‘The technologies are just enablers.’ This is a good point, as social media is just one of the tools that can help you get done what you need to. But first, you need to know what it is you need to do. Have a look at the articles and see what you think.

I like the way that social media in an Agricultural setting has the ability to link you to like minded persons and bring the regional Ag community together. Wish i had the opportunity to go to the event.
