Start with the learner

When looking at the whole thing with technology and learning, sometimes we get it back to front. Often, we have access to some technology, and then we see how it can be made to suit learners. Generally what happens is that the learners are made to use the technology because it is seen as a solution to a problem. Yet we often don’t start by identifying what the problem might be.

A better approach is the start with the learners. Who are they? What do they need? How can those needs best be met? What sort of support/guidance do they need? Answers to these questions (and many others) will help find solutions that best meet the learners needs.

These solutions may not be technology related. Let’s not view technology as a solution looking for problems to solve. Start with the learners, identify their needs and develop the best solutions for them.
